The Art of Longing

‘Yearning aches in a way that is so deeply life-giving, because it is the ache of life itself.. the ache of her desire to evolve more completely into Wholeness, into the One.’

– Nina Lombardo

Honouring the wisdom of your deepest longings are an essential part of sacred feminine practice. Your longings are the portals, the guiding way. Your longings are sacred. Think about it. Allowing yourself to yearn, to desire, to long is so freeing. Like an embodied prayer to the Universe. Like a call from your soul.

What’s the difference between neediness and longing?

Neediness is pulling someone else’s energy in, because you feel lack. It is dis-embodied.
It repels.
Longing is an energy going from the inside out, because you know you are love. It is embodied. It is magnetic.

Neediness is just neglected longing.

Where have you suppressed your longing? Tucked away and deemed as ‘too much’ or ‘dramatic’ or ‘invalid’? What do your heart, soul, yoni long for?

Do you long to feel another layer of love and sex, to come back to sacred union, to be taken deeper? That’s a portal. Do you long for more purpose in your life? That’s a portal. Do you long to live and speak your risky truth? That’s a portal. Do you long to feel free from your shadows and fears? That’s a portal. Do you long to be seen, naked and bare? That’s a portal. Do you long to open your heart to the ache of the world, to cry and pray and scream? That’s a portal. Do you long to soften, to surrender in devotion and bliss? That’s a portal. Do you long for silliness and joy? That’s a portal.

Don’t dismiss your longings, for they will turn into neediness or unanswered prayers. Listen to them. Let your longings reveal through every vessel in your body and shine as healing medicine into the world.

Dance closely to your longings. Bend down to kiss them and turn them into art. Write poetry to The Beloved! Make love to your beloved - even if you haven’t met him or her yet. Get down on your knees and hold your own heart. Sing to the Goddess and her long-awaited return. Lay on the earth and whisper to the flowers words of wonder. Whatever it is, wherever you are called, by god, long. Ache. Yearn.
